Google is introducing a new AI-powered experiment designed to help people explore a wider range of career possibilities. In a blog post on Wednesday, the company unveiled “Career Dreamer,” a tool that analyzes your experiences, education, skills, and interests to identify career paths that might be a strong match for you.
With Career Dreamer, users can leverage AI to generate a personalized career identity statement by selecting their current and past job roles, skills, experiences, education, and interests. Google suggests that this statement can be added to a résumé or used as a guide for interview discussions.
The tool presents career options in a dynamic, visual format, showing a web of potential paths based on your background and interests. If a particular career catches your eye, you can explore it in more depth to understand what it involves.
Additionally, Career Dreamer integrates with Gemini, Google’s AI assistant, to help users refine their résumés and cover letters while also providing inspiration for new job ideas.
Unlike platforms like Indeed or LinkedIn, Career Dreamer does not connect users with actual job postings. Instead, it is designed to streamline career exploration, reducing the need for multiple Google searches to find potential career fits.
Currently, Career Dreamer is available only as an experimental tool in the United States, and there is no official word on whether Google will expand it to other countries.
“We hope Career Dreamer can support a diverse range of job seekers,” Google stated in its blog post. “During its development, we collaborated with organizations that serve students starting their careers, recent graduates entering the workforce, adult learners looking for new opportunities, and members of the military community, including transitioning service members, military spouses, and veterans. Whether you’re considering a career change or just exploring options, we encourage you to try Career Dreamer.”
Google cites a report from the World Economic Forum, which indicates that individuals typically hold an average of 12 jobs throughout their lifetime, while Gen Z is expected to navigate 18 jobs across six different career paths.
Recognizing the challenge of framing past experiences into a cohesive career narrative—especially for those with non-traditional career paths—Google believes Career Dreamer can assist users in better articulating how their existing skills translate to new job opportunities.
